Special Seminars

We are pleased to present two SEMINARS during the festival, each exploring the festival theme. Unlike workshops, which you can take in any combination you like, we ask that you take the full seminar, as each builds progressively from session to session.

You do not have to take the seminar with a partner. In fact, we encourage people to change partners and try both roles in the seminars. Each seminar is appropriate for levels solid intermediate and up.

The seminars are included in the ALL ACCESS pass, and are also available to purchase separately. They are not included in the daily passes or in the Milongas, Practicas, Concerts, Lectures + 4 Workshops Pass.

Seminar: Conscious Improvisation in Tango

Taught by Rino & Graziella

This seminar is a three-class journey designed to develop clear, natural, and creative improvisation in Argentine tango, moving from structure and essential elements to full musical and expressive freedom.

Saturday, May 23

1:30-2:45 pm: Class #1 of 3: Structure and Fundamental Elements. Study of tango structure and its essential components: walking, axis, pivot, giro. Understanding the foundations to create a clear and shared movement language.

Sunday, May 24

1:30-2:45 pm: Class #2 of 3: Deconstruction and Free Construction. How to transform elements into improvisation through variations, combinations, and dynamic changes. Building and rebuilding the dance in a fluid and creative way.

Monday, May 25

1:30-2:45 pm: Class #3 of 3: Creativity, Musicality, and Interpretation. Releasing personal expression through musical listening, phrasing, accents, pauses, and intention. Making every improvisation unique, musical, and communicative.

Seminar: References for Musical Interpretation

Taught by Octavio & Carolina

This four-class seminar explores the foundations of musical expression and musicality in tango, and then applies them to three specific orchestras: Di Sarli, D'Arienzo and Pugliese.

3-4:15 pm: Class #1 of 4: How to recognize, appreciate, and make use of the basic musical content of a tango: rhythm and expression, compás, Beat, tempo, accent, phrasing, musical dialogue, and instrumentation.
